Cutter is the CEO of Hanka Robotics and the main antagonist in Ghost in the Shell (2017). Presented as an aloof and serious figure who supervised the creation of Mira Killian, Cutter is later revealed to be the one who had her young self kidnapped and experimented on to become a living weapon. He is portrayed by Peter Ferdinando, and loosely based on Kazundo Gouda.
Appearance[]
Cutter has brown hair, dons an undercut and wears a black suit reminiscent of Gouda in 2nd gig. He has a few facial prosthetics, which likely serve as communication tools.
Personality and traits[]
Like his source material, Cutter is cold and apathetic and feels no remorse for his actions. He believes power is what makes somebody great. He is also self-righteous and has no sense of accountability for his crimes.
Ghost in the Shell (2017)[]
Cutter serves as the main antagonist of the film and had abducted people and experimented on them to create the first full-cyborgs. Among the numerous test subjects, Hideo Kuze was almost a success but was deemed a failed experiment, while Motoko Kusanagi was considered the first success.
In the movie, Cutter orders Aramaki and Section 9 to pursue Kuze, a dangerous hacker who attacks and murders Hanka Robotics employees. However, hints from Dr. Ouellet give clues that Cutter is the mastermind behind a far more sinister plot than what he brings up on the surface. When the Major confronts Kuze, she learns he was tested and abused by someone, which Ouellet later confirms being Cutter himself. Cutter kills Dr. Ouellet when she frees Major and saves her life, then asks Aramaki to take Major down. However, as the Section 9 chief proves himself unrelenting, Cutter has Section 6 operatives assassinate Aramaki and his team, in vain. Major, Togusa, Kuze and Saito eventually become too unpredictable for his plans and they end up in failure. In the end, Cutter is confronted for his crimes and killed by Aramaki.
